Transformation at SEC

We believe the Bible teaches that a Christian is continually transformed by the Holy Spirit, exhorted to growth by others in the church, and shows that transformation by external behavior.  Paul calls this transformation sanctification - the life-long process that follows justification.  In Romans, Paul says,

Romans 6:19 19 I am speaking in human terms because of the weakness of your flesh. For just as you presented your members as slaves to impurity and to lawlessness, resulting in further lawlessness, so now present your members as slaves to righteousness, resulting in sanctification.

A few verses later, Paul writes,

Romans 6:22 22 But now having been freed from sin and enslaved to God, you derive your benefit, resulting in sanctification, and the outcome, eternal life.

At SEC, we take transformation seriously.  We expect members and their family to be working on their transformation regularly.  We offer 150 opportunities per year to do just that - Sunday morning Sunday School for all ages, Sunday worship, and small groups during the week.  We have a self-assessment tool for members to use in measuring their own growth.  We encourage personal accountability and, for those willing to be accountable, we use this tool as a formal method of documenting growth and transformation.  (We require accountability for those wishing to serve in a leadership position.)

This self-assessment tool consists of a matrix and a scoring table.  Click here to see the matrix.  We will post the scoring tool shortly.

In September 2006, we will begin two small groups using The Truth Project as their curriculum.  This curriculum is designed to establish and reinforce a Christian World View.  Sign up now by emailing us at info@seccola.org.
